Thomas Lee

Thomas, born and raised in Honolulu, attended Notre Dame before returning home to pursue his graduate studies; he received a Master’s Degree in public health and received a doctorate in epidemiology in 2017. Tired of the typical gym routine, Thomas began his CrossFit journey in 2011 to challenge himself physically, mentally, and experience the “cult” that’s often associated with a CrossFit box. Thomas enjoys helping others achieve their fitness goals and even convinced his parents and future in-laws to join HTF! In his free time, he enjoys working out, cheering on any Notre Dame team, and spending time with Jess, his fiancé, and their dog, Bella. Thomas has his Crossfit Level 1 and weightlifting trainer certifications.

May Liu

May, a civil engineer by day and an aspiring coach by night, began her fitness journey as a cardio junky. She started CrossFit in 2014 and soon became addicted to the adrenaline rush. May is one of the #5amCrazies and looks forward to helping people achieve feats they never thought possible. Additionally, he holds a black belt in taekwondo, and received his master's degree in public administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Aside from his work in coaching and academia, he is also the founder and co-owner of local fitness brand, Shakas and Snatches™. Joshua is passionate about fitness and business but not as much as he is addicted to sweet treats.

Ryan Burciaga

Ryan was the former junior varsity coach at Radford High School where he led the team to two Division II championships. Ryan has his CrossFit Level 1 and mobility certifications. He plans to incorporate CrossFit as a plan for preventive health care when he obtains his doctorate.

Pam Iwamoto

An avid competitor, Pam has competed in various competitions from a young age and has always focused on strength and endurance training through various forms of exercise. Pam was introduced to yoga five years ago when she attended a Bikram class with her daughter who was home on break from college. Soon thereafter, Pam enrolled in Core Power Yoga’s Yoga Sculpt Teacher Training and became a certified instructor so that she could share with others her passion for fitness through yoga sculpt. Concurrently with her yoga class, Pam was enrolled in HTF’s Fundamentals Course and soon realized that her workout regimens had become complete, so much so that she still trains at HTF.

Blaise Arita

Blaise started CrossFit in 2014 and enjoyed the all-encompassing aspect that the workouts provided. He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering which drives his mentality for an emphasis on technique and efficiency. Attentive to varying needs and goals of each athlete, Blaise strives to improve the performance of each individual both physically and mentally. In addition to helping others, Blaise enjoys competing in CrossFit competitions. He has represented CrossFit HTF in individual, partner, and team competitions that include local throw downs, weightlifting (<77kg) meets, and the Hawaii VA Games in both 2015 & 2016.

Rhoda Castillo | Nutritionist

Rhoda, raised on Maui and now a resident of Honolulu, received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and has been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) since 2013. Rhoda was a former soccer player, track & field team member, cheerleader, and marathon runner. Looking for something other than the routine gym membership, Rhoda started at CrossFit HTF in 2013 after finding a Groupon deal that was too good to pass up. Since then she has been an enthusiastic HTF member and can be found at the box five to seven days a week working out or just hanging out. Rhoda is passionate about nutrition and fitness and loves encouraging others to find their balance in achieving their best quality of life.

Mario Quezada | Branding/Design

Mario hails from Monterey Park, California, and is the brains behind HTF’s branding and design. Mario was initially drawn into trying CrossFit after seeing a Groupon deal for HTF in 2013 and the rest is history. From getting his first muscle up, to a PR on his snatch at 235lbs, to achieving 485lbs on the back squat, Mario has many proud CrossFit moments. He is also a partner in Shakas and Snatches (Hawaii's Fitness brand), creator of Viejo Strong (Masters athlete brand) and partner with Coach Ian in faith based CrossFit clothing company: Stronghold Gear.

When Mario’s not achieving new PRs or working on branding, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter Aila (#ChunqaWunqa) and family as well as teaching God’s word to young adults in Hawaii and around the world. Mario has his CrossFit Level 1 certification and is looking to pursue his USA Weightlifting and CrossFit Level 2 certifications.

Nikki Yuen | Events

Nikki, responsible for coordinating HTF’s events, is a Kaneohe native and former competitive gymnast. She started CrossFit when she began to miss the physical fitness and challenges of gymnastics practices, and was drawn to HTF via a Groupon deal. She took a chance on a new type of workout (at 5:00AM!) and although she loved the WOD, she ultimately stayed because of the environment and the people. Nikki’s proudest HTF moment was when she linked double-unders together for the first time because of the mental anguish it had caused her for such a long time! She values the HTF family, notably the people she has met that inspire, encourage, and motivate her to improve herself not only physically but in all aspects of her life. When Nikki’s not busy wodding at the box or being a lawyer, she enjoys hiking, reading, and organizing.

Francis Choe | Operations & Communications

Francis, born and raised in Honolulu and a communications/public relations professional, is responsible for managing HTF’s operations and coordinating marketing/communications on behalf of the box. Francis was initially drawn into CrossFit to try something other than the typical gym routine. Since his first Fundamentals Class, he was immediately drawn into HTF by the community and the people. Francis’ proudest moments include anytime he PRs but especially when he got his first muscle up.
